Catawba College receives $200 million gift from anonymous donor
Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina, has announced a $200 million endowment gift from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous.
A third of the gift will provide recurring funding to support and enhance the college's established programs focused on the environment and sustainability, while the remaining two-thirds will be dedicated to supporting strategic initiatives, strengthening student scholarships, enhancing student success programming, promoting a thriving workplace, and investing in faculty excellence. Earlier this year, Catawba received gifts totaling $18 million to retire the entirety of the college's debt, including $13.7 million from an anonymous donor.
"Students at Catawba benefit from the personal attention they receive from faculty and staff. They have rich opportunities for personal formation and exploration of vocation," said Constance Rogers-Lowery, provost of the college, which provides financial aid to all on-campus undergraduate students. "This gift advances our college's position as a destination for exceptional and visionary faculty who value this kind of learning community."
"It is impossible to adequately express our gratitude," said Catawba College president David Nelson. "Our donor's generosity funds our imagination, enabling us to provide a liberal arts education that frees students to create the world where we all want to live."
